Bird is flying well, very nervous. No sign of any neurological issues.
Caught up and brought inside for evaluation.
When handling Cas noticed that the distal R leg, medially, just above the foot, was a bit thickened and firm.
Radiographs do not show this leg, anesthetized for radiographs.
Lateral view shows a minimally displaced fracture of the distal TMT with a slight thickening of the distal leg. Good ROM in foot and toes. Feet look good - there is a very small scrape on the bottom of the left foot on the main foot pad, looks more like a scrape than bumble foot or a pressure sore.
No concerns with skull fracture, there is really no displacement seen. Bruising and alopecia are resolving.
Eyes are improved. More chronic changes than anything at this point.
P: All right to d/c Meloxicam - can move in to a bigger habitat when room.

Recheck eyes in 2 weeks. Dr Gardner

Bird is flying in the small enclosure when caught up. Eating well.
The bruising on the right side of the head is resolving, greenish now. No oozing, no wound, did not clean area. No obvious crepitus or swelling.

Healed fracture in left ulna is really barely palpable and really well aligned.

Eye exam shows some mild improvement but still quite a bit of pathology OU. Less haziness in my opinion than the last time I saw it.

Given time-line I think it is best to d/c eye meds to decrease handling, but continue Meloxicam at least another week for inflammation in eyes.

Veterinary Exam:
Patient is BAR-H alert, did well with handling.
Palpation of the head/skull the calvarium is stable, no palpable bony instabilities which is very good.
There is a superficial soft tissue wound present, focal, 6-8 mm on dorsal head just above right eye. This area is healing well.
Patient is tracking visually normally.
Body condition is good.
Heart and air sacs sound normal.
Wing and leg strength is normal.

Assessment: Patient is stable and calvarium (skull)is stable and focal bony changed noted on radiograph involving the dorsal orbital area should heal on its own. The tiny metallic particles are small enough they should not cause patient an issue with the size of the particles and I think they are unlikely to migrate. Consider a blood lead test if possible to make sure the particles are not a toxicity issue for this bird.
Continue eye treatment.

Plan: Recheck eyes and superficial healing on head in about 5 days.

OU damage is of great concern. Believe some of damage is old while other is new. Not sure how much they will recover. Bird is very visual and had no problem flying and perching accurately. Also concerned about skull fracture and metal fragments (will those migrate?) Recommend that Vet review rads and OU.

BAR once door was opened, NOLO. Jumping around erratically. Brought inside and anaesthetized under ISO and oxygen via mask for rads (4% ind, 2.5-3% maint). Revealed old, healed distal L ulna fx as well as newer L skull fx. Old ulna fx is very well aligned with minimal callus and no movement, wing gets full ext. Skull fx is more concerning. Head is still bruised and scabbed on top. Took a brief look in OD but he started waking up and becoming stressed, didn't look in OS, but concerned about visual status and severity of fx. Eval tomorrow.

R IB primaries are damaged. Not actively bleeding but appears they're oozing when impacted. Cleaned up and dried but did not pull any today. Moved to larger space to minimize reinjury. He flew around enclosure some and landed on ground, then flew up to T perch.

Bird is perched and fairly alert. Did not eat last night.
Removed the bandage on the head and cleaned thoroughly. Could not find an actual wound on the head expect for a very tiny, barely visible puncture at the front of the bald spot. Bruising beneath. Suspect just severe focal swelling causing leakage of serum. I would recommend a skull radiograph when we do rads.

Cleaned the blood off of the distal primaries on the right wing - there are 2 damaged blood feathers (9 and 10 I think but they are not bleeding any more.

Looked at eyes - see eye exam notes. Both eyes have a lot of debris - fair to guarded prognosis for eyes but definitely would continue to follow medically.
Fluorescein stain negative OU, add Pred acetate OU BID.
Moved outside since so alert, force fed and gave fluids and meds first.
Continue as planned w/ the addition of the Pred acetate. Dr Gardner
